Throckmorton
by Trisha

CS: Please share with us how your group formed and any changes it went through after forming.

Throckmorton, E. Warren: In December 2000, my wife said my Christmas present would be time to go into the studio and record some of the songs I had been playing in church. Well, recording some demos turned into a full length, professional mastered CD, called Something Different. The "group" is more appropriately called a community of musicians that come together to make music. Seems like every time out playing, there is a different group of people. There are some core folks but I am really am blessed to have a number of individuals who like to play. So I guess you could say the whole project is still a work in progress.

CS: What is the main focus in your ministry? Teens? The lost? The hurting? Why did you decide up on this as a focus?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: Paul talked about heaven in the New Testament and he said that we were to comfort one another with those words. Many of my songs refer to a heavenly reality that is not seen but experienced by believers. I hope my songs can be a comfort to believers and provocative to those who are not now believing. The focus grows out of the ministry within our local church. The church functions to build believers for ministry and I hope that is what I can contribute to. At the same time, our band also plays in prisons, community fairs and where the music has to stand alone. So we want the words to provoke unbelievers to think.

CS: What does your groups name mean? Where did you come up with it?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: Throckmorton is my name. I have no idea what it means but it just seemed weird enough to use.

CS: Where do you see yourself in five years? Ten? The future?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: Raising kids, making music, working in the Kingdom...

CS: Do you ever worry about getting caught up in the world of show biz? That success will change your group?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: Not much to worry about there. I am a college professor by day and that limits my ability to travel, tour and the like. I have another whole ministry to those who struggle with same sex attraction and all these irons in the fire will likely limit how much time I could do in the usual music/show biz area. I do hope to see the songs get some more notice but I doubt we as a band will be widely known.

CS: What kind of relationship do you maintain with your audiences? Do you fellowship with them? Or do you remain distant as the performer?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: FELLOWSHIP is it; I dont think of myself as a performer.

CS: Do you write your own music? Where do you get ideas for your music?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: All songs were written by me except Dance of the Crickets which was co written with Casey Walter.

CS: How would you describe your music style?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: That's tough - I do several genres, progressive rock, classic rock, blues and ballads.

CS: Who, or what, are your biggest musical influences?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: From the past, Humble Pie, Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor...current...Collective Soul, Dave Matthews Band, Newsboys, DC Talk.

CS: What is your musical background? Did you take lessons to gain the musical skills you have now?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: Lessons started at age 8 I think and I hated it. I picked it up again to play in a high school jazz band. After that I never put it down...

CS: Do you find it strange to hear yourself singing on the radio or to see yourself in a video?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: Yes as far as the radio and Internet goes. Even though I am old as CCM is concerned, I am pretty new at all this so yes it is different.

CS: Any plans to sign with a major Label in the near future?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: None at present.

CS: Do you have any advice to give to the youth of our world?

Throckmorton, E. Warren: Remember the Creator in the days of your youth... Ecclesiates.

Organize your life around your relationship with God. You can accomplish so much in life if you don't care what people think of you; rather if you care about what God thinks of you. Get busy, dream God-sized dreams for the Kingdom!
