Starfield CS: Do you ever worry about getting caught up in the world of show biz? That success will change you? SF: Yes, I think about it a lot... And honestly, I do get caught up in it... My ego is always trying to make itself heard... to rise up and be noticed... It's only the grace of God and the accountability of band mates and friends that really keeps me grounded. CS: What kind of relationship do you maintain with your audiences? Do you fellowship with them? Or do you remain distant as the performer? SF: I certainly try NOT to be distant as a performer... But as much as I try, I know there must still be times when I am... I think fellowshipping, or 'hanging' with fans is just as much a part of my calling as writing and performing music... Jesus was never selfish with his time... I love the passages in the gospels where Jesus is wiped out from a day of ministry - ready to retreat to a quite place alone with his Father...only to come across another desperate crowd and have compassion on them... Healing their sick... I can relate to Jesus in these situations - sometimes my precious "time" is the very thing that I can best serve him with... I try to be faithful in how I use it. CS: What is the message you wish to share with your audience? SF: That God is not mad at them... That grace is enough... That doubt is normal and not offensive to God... That vulnerability and surrender are the keys that unlock our hearts and allow them to really know freedom the way God intends it... CS: What do you think is the hardest thing about being in a band? SF: The travel... Missing family and friends... CS: How did you get started and who inspired you? SF: I got started in music at the church I grew up going to in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada... There was a whole group of us that just lived and breathed worship music... We drew inspiration from worship writers of the day like Brian Doerksen and Bob Fitts... Out of our passion for worship eventually came a desire to write songs and perform... The gigs turned into tours and the songs turned into CD's... Six years and hundreds of gigs later we find ourselves in Nashville with a record deal, still living and breathing worship music and passionate about seeing God's people do the same. CS: Do you have an accountability partner or prayer partner to keep you encouraged and uplifted? SF: Other then my wife... not really... I'm presently trusting God to bring someone into my life that can provide a mentor-like role. CS: Who do you look up to the most in life?
