Jason Foust of Exit
by Nelson Garcia

CS: How did your group form? Did you start out together or did you pick up players along the way?

JF: I (Jason Foust) had been a staff musician at my church for a few yearsas a teen. I really felt like God wanted me to do more with the music Hehad given but I wasn't sure exactly what that was to be. Not that beingas church musician is bad, it's just that I felt a different calling. I had some friends in the church one of which was my brother (who played drums). After some initial rehearsals I asked them if they want ed to join me in my quest! Since then my brother has resigned from band music and now playsat his church. Along the way we picked up Eddie Jett on electric and ChrisLindsey on drums.

CS: How long have you all been together?

JF: We have been together since January of 1999. Approximately 3.5 years.

CS: Please share with us how your group formed and any changes it went through after forming.

JF: See Question 1.

CS: What is the main focus in your ministry? Teens? The lost? The hurting?

JF : It's sort of a mixture really. Some people disagree with us in the following belief but I believe this is what the Word teaches: Evangelismand discipleship are equally important. Through our music God has giventhe wonderful opportunity to both evangelize and disciple His people. We don't purposefully shoot toward people between 16 and 35 but that isgenerally the age group of people we meet.

CS: Do you make it a goal to use your music to minister to people?

JF: Yes, definitely. Whether that be teaching the Gospel or sharing what it'slike to have a Godly relationship with your girlfriend or spouse.

CS: How would you describe your music style?

JF: It's a mixture of a lot of different genres but if you had to put it in a category it would definitely be Pop Rock. Sort of a Jon Mayer meets the Goo Goo Dolls with just a pinch of Matchbox Twenty.

CS: What is the biggest thing you have learned from performing and ministering through music?

JF: How to be real with people. People, especially young people, have a nackfor spotting fake anything*whether that be emotion or a smile. I havedefinitely learned that people want you to be real.

CS: Could you please share a short testimony about what God has done during one of your concerts?

JF: There was a concert where we were playing for a large group of studentsat a college when we lost all power to our system. We tried to revive theequipment but it just wouldn't come to life. The band sat down on the endof the stage and talked to the students. We asked them about their livesand they asked us questions of the like. At first it was really something tokill the time while technicians worked on the system. But after a few minutes we started to really enjoy the intimacy of taking time to get to know the audience. We sat and talked for about 45 minutes.

CS: What is the latest news on your group? Any new CD's to be released soon?

JF: It's nothing definite yet but we are talking with Otto "Sugarbear" Price (producer, dcTalk bass guitarist) about a demo that would be pitched tosome labels. As far as business goes would be an incredible opportunity.

CS: Any plans to sign with a major Label in the near future?

JF: Simply put: Always trying, hard to do, God will handle it.

CS: What advice can you to give to the youth of our world?

JF: Live Him Everyday! Don't get in people's face but do the things that He has called you to do. Salvation is of the Lord. Stand strong in His grace and know that all things come from His hand. He is Sovereign.
