CS: How did your group form? Did you start out together or did you pick up players along the way?
Thad: The band was an idea of Kyle and I. Kyle knew Matt could play drums, so we started as a three piece looking for a good bassist. I knew Jeremy who was our first bassist, and eventually Nate who was a friend of Matt's joined to play drums, which moved Matt over to the other guitar, and myself to simply lead vocals. Now we have a prospective new bassist named Drew (pray that he'll join for good...hehe). Wow that was a mouthful!
CS: I know some of you, or at least one of you, has played in another band (the link to your guestbook took me to that site). Have you all been in bands before? What happened to them?
Thad: The band that is linked in the guestbook is my old band Two By Two...we were a ska band and we broke in the spring of 99. I know Matt (guitar) has been in a few bands before, and Jeremy has as well. Some are still going, some have disbanded.
CS: What kind of relationship do you all have? Are you super close? Do you get on one another's nerves sometimes? :-)
Thad: Honestly, me and Kyle met through friends not even a year ago, and I did not know Matt or Nate before we started the band (Although I did see Matt's old band before I met him). We have grown closer together since we started playing together, and I don't think, and I hope I don't get on anyone's nerves...no one really gets on mine.
CS: What is the main focus in your ministry? Teens? The lost? The hurting?
Thad: I'd say our main focus is probably the teenage age group. We never really sat down as a band and discussed what kind of ministry we wanted to have. We just wanted to write music that people could relate to, and glorify God at the same time. Right now, as it says on our website, we want to tell people about Jesus Christ, and have fun while doing it.
CS: Where do you see the band in five years? Ten? The future?
Thad: Wow...that is a very great question! Well, I really hope we can get somewhere. I see the most potential here that I've had in any band. Who knows? I guess it all depends on where God wants us.
CS: When and how did you accept Christ into your heart?
Thad: I became a Christian at the end of my sophomore year of high school...which would be about 3 years ago. I had been going to my friend's youth group for about a year, and listening and not really acting on anything I heard. But at the beginning of that summer, God started speaking to my heart, and I realized that I needed Him and had to make a commitment.
CS: What is your favorite verse in the Bible and why? Same question, but for book. :-)
Thad: My favorite Bible verse is shared by many people I know...Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who gives me strength." I just think it's awesome to know that if we put our trust in the Lord, the outcome is incredible! My favorite book is the Bible, but if you mean a different book...I like a lot by Max Lucado. He's a really great writer!
CS: What is the biggest thing God has done during one of your performances?
Thad: We had a show a few weeks ago where the whole sound system was down before the show. The sound technicians could not figure out the problem and were trying everything. The organization had everyone gather in a circle, and we all started praying for the equipment, and praising God. And what do ya know, but a short while later...the sound started working! It was a great experience!
CS: Do you write your own music?
Thad: Yes we do...punk rawk with a little emo and hip hop mixed in.
CS: Where do you get ideas for your music?
Thad: Musically we're influenced by bands such as MxPx, Slick Shoes, Brandtson, The Insyderz, and others. We basically write a lot on our own and bring ideas to practice, where we give each other suggestions. Lyrically I get my ideas from situations I'm in, or things I'm feeling. I have written a lot about relationships, and lately about confusion in life, and turning to God rather than things of the world when life is hard.
CS: Who, aside from Jesus, is or has been the biggest influence in your life?
Thad: I would have to say my youth pastor Shawn, who has since moved to Arizona. He was there when I made my commitment to Christ, and has been there for me through my walk. God called him out to Arizona last year, which crushed me, but I know He was doing God's will. You rock Shawn!
CS: Have you always had a desire to sing in a group like this?
Thad: Definitely...I love to sing. I do it everywhere...in the shower, in my car, in my basement, etc. So to be able to do what I love to do for a band like this is great! Praise Jesus!
CS: When does your group plan on going into the studio to cut a record?
Thad: We will be recording our EP "You Can't Play Here" in mid-April. It'll have 4-5 songs and should be available by early May.
CS: Are there any chances you will be signing with any labels soon? I know you are a new band that hasn't been around for long, but I just wondered if there was a chance that this would be happening soon.
Thad: Wow...that would be pretty rockin if it happened. Realistically I don't think so right now, but maybe someday!
CS: Do you have any advice to give to the youth of our world?
Thad: Smile, God loves you more than you can possibly imagine. Matthew 6:33-34 - "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all of these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
