Doug Meacham of Blame Lucy
by Trisha Bleau

CS: How did your group form? Did you start out together or did you pick up players along the way?

Doug: Our current line-up is a mixture of individuals that have come together over a four-year period of time. Our guitarist, Ryan Smith, and I formed the group. Then, we added the drummer, Kris Klaiber. And, finally, we added a keyboardist, Matt Franz. My name is Doug Meacham, I sing and play bass guitar.

CS: How has this affected the group? Did it take awhile to bond? What kind of relationship do you all have now?

Doug: We are still growing together. Through weekly band devotionals, we are growing Spiritually as well.

CS: How has the group changed since you started out?

Doug: We started out with a "heavier" sound. We had two guitarists, and sounded more like Bush or Alice In Chains. But, now we are more "pop/rock" sounding, like Audio Adrenaline and others.

CS: What is the main focus in your ministry? Teens? The lost? The hurting?

Doug: Our main focus has been to share love. We know that kids, teens, and young adults all are looking for the same thing..."Love." So, we try to show them where to get "real Love!" (through Christ)

CS: What does your groups name mean?

Doug: Blame Lucy is short for "Blame Lucifer."

CS: Where did you come up with it?

Doug: We basically thought up the name on our own. But, there was a radio contest here in Columbus, Ohio where they voted for the best name. Blame Lucy was the winner!

CS: Where do you see the band in five years? Ten? The future?

Doug: Well, at this point in time, the band is branching off. Some of us are forming a new group called "New Method." The new band is already involved with a "major" Christian record label. So, watch for more from this group in the future. Blame Lucy will also continue on, but there may be some changes. We'll keep the public informed as it all happens!

CS: When and how did you accept Christ into your heart?

Doug: I accepted the Lord when I was 8 yrs. old at a church youth camp. But, I really grew in the Lord during my post-college years. I'm still growing in Him day by day!

CS: What is your favorite verse in the Bible and why? Same question, but for book of the Bible.

Doug: My favorite verse in the Bible is Romans 8:28 "All things work together for good....for those who are called according to His purpose." This really has encouraged me through the years to know that it's all going to work out in the end!

CS: What is the biggest thing you have learned from touring and ministering through music?

Doug: I've learned that there are a LOT of hurting people in the world. And, Jesus is the ONLY answer!

CS: What is the funniest thing you have seen while touring?

Doug: One time we were playing a festival and waiting to go on stage. I was sitting below where the snack bar was, and a water fight broke out above my head. Well...I got SOAKED just before I went on stage! I went on anyway, and sang until I was dry. :-)

CS: What is the biggest thing God has done during one of your concerts?

Doug: We recently played a conference where everyone in the building was anointed with oil. The Lord really moved that day!

CS:Do you write your own music?

Doug: Yes, we do.

CS: Where do you get ideas for your music?

Doug: From the Word, T.V., Sermons....you name it!

CS: Do you ever get criticized for your lyrics?

Doug: Sometimes we do, but we don't get "too deep" with our lyrics. Some people would like us to. But, we like to keep them simple.

CS Who, aside from Jesus, is or has been the biggest influence in your life?

Doug: Personally, my Dad has been. He is our pastor, and sets a great example for ministry.

CS: Do you have an accountability partner or prayer partner to keep you encouraged and uplifted?

Doug: Again, my Dad, our pastor.

CS: Does the group come together for prayer at times other than concerts and ministry opportunities?

Doug: Yes, we have a weekly devotional time.

CS: Have you always had a desire to be in a group like this?

Doug: Doug: Yes, all my life!

CS: Do you find it strange to hear your music on the radio or to see yourself in a video?

Doug: No, we are getting used to it at this point! :-) It is encouraging though.

CS: What's the latest news from the band? Any major changes? Any new releases, tours, etc?

Doug: We'll keep everyone posted through press releases about the band "New Method."

CS: Do you have any advice to give to the youth of our world?

Doug: No matter what you do in life, always know that Jesus must be in the center of it!
