Battle Sound
by Trisha Bleau
CS: How did your group form? Did you start out together or did you pick up players along the way?
Dave: The band started at a bowling alley, I (Dave the lead singer) got a revelation about the band. I was sitting watching bowlers and god said " Hey you, your gonna be in a band called BattleSound" and i said "ok!" So, I was on the prowl looking for a bassist to play with me (because the band hadn't started yet) so i got in touch with Lee. We attended a Christian dance club in the past together called Club Ark, so I asked him to help me. Of course he did, and he is a gnarly bassist. With what little songs we had, we put a post on the radiou.com Graffiti Wall looking for drummers. Sam replied by calling me. He sounded old and we sounded young... what a trial ehhh? We jammed together and voila here we are BattleSound.
Sam: When I talked with Dave on the phone he sounded 15 so I had my doubts. . . Dave told me that he thought I was around 30 by my voice.
CS: How long have you all been together?
Battle Sound: We have been together about a half a year.
CS: How has this affected the group? Did it take awhile to bond? What kind of relationship do you all have now?
Battle Sound: It has given us time to adjust to each others music styles. We actually bond really good, we all have close to the same interests musically. We are growing more and more like brothers, we have a little ways to go....but hey god is in control.
CS: What is the main focus in your ministry? Teens? The lost? The hurting?
Dave: Basically we all have our different points of outreach in BattleSound. We are geared toward the youth and lost.
Sam: I seem to work mostly with teens who have made mistakes and think that their mistake was so grave that they don't deserve forgiveness or many times they feel uncomfortable even talking with their minister! I also speak with atheists, agnostics, and a few wiccans and similar faiths.
Lee: My calling seems to be with those who ave been victims of false religion and those who are bound by certain addictions of the flesh. I have had the term "youth pastor" placed on my shoulders because of the way I held people and drop whatever I'm doing.
CS: For those who have not read the info on your site could you explain what your groups name means?
BattleSound, in the old testament before armies went to war they sent the musicians out first. We are preparing the way for Jesus, fighting The Battle against the powers of the dark side. We provide alternative music, rock ballad, and hardcore to apply to the youth.

CS: Where did you come up with it?
Battle Sound: In a bowling alley, God gave us the revelation so I guess we didn't come up with it, God did!
CS: Where do you see the band in five years? Ten? The future?
Battle Sound: I truly believe with all my heart that BattleSound will be a long term ministry. Everyone in the band (Dave, Lee, and Sam) realise that we will be doing Gods work in this ministry for awhile.
CS: What is your favorite verse in the Bible and why? Same question, but for book of the Bible.
Dave: Jer 20:9, John 16:13, Gal 6:9
Sam: Proverbs 1:30-33 "They would [have] none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the ease of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and be quiet from fear of evil." -- and Proverbs is my favorite book. .
Lee: Eph. 6:12 and Isaiah 43:2.

CS: What is the biggest thing you have learned from ministering through music?
Dave: I have learned that God always provides, no matter how worthless we can feel sometimes. He will bless you with gifts and talents if we just trust in Him.
Sam: Though it's fun, even the Christian music industry can be a money grubbing fashion show which is commonly run by non-Christians. The trick is not getting caught up in oneself, if everything is given to God then everything WILL work.
Lee: That music is a powerful tool, one which God created, to be used for His glory and His will.
CS: What is the biggest thing God has done during one of your concerts?
Dave: God always proves to us and other people that we aren't in control. Basically through discouragement and trust in God he always proves his love... in some weird way!!:)
Sam: Sometimes it seems that just getting the show together is a miracle. Especially if there is an inexperienced organizer planning a really big show, commonly you just work as hard as you can doing everything you know how to do. Then in the end you plug in and hope everything works. We haven't had a disaster yet!
Lee: Sometimes you can see the influence of the music on people as you play. If it's an upbeat song, they'll jump, if it's deep, they'll get involved, and if you play praise & worship, the eyes of those you see can really bless you.
CS: Do you write your own music?
Battle Sound: Yes we do.
CS: Where do you get ideas for your music?
Battle Sound: Basically God ordains our music. He give us awesome music and we are like
" wow, thanks!"
Sam adds: The last song WE "tried" to write was terrible!" We find its
best to open our hearts, play, and remember what we played.
CS: Do you ever get criticized for your lyrics?
Battle Sound: No not yet, we do look forward to explaining our music to the lost. We have received grief for the band name, but it won't change.
CS: Who, aside from Jesus, is or has been the biggest influence in your life?
Dave: Josh and Jeanetta Dye
Sam: Definitely Drill Sergeant Ward!
Lee: Those around me, in person or in spirit.
CS: Do you have an accountability partner or prayer partner to keep you encouraged and uplifted?
Dave: Yes a friend called Eric, we hold each other accountable, accountability is hard sometimes. Being true and honest in very humbling.
Sam: I usually call them friends. . . . :) and yes I do have friends.
Lee: The guys in the band...especially Dave
CS: Does the group come together for prayer at times other than concerts and ministry opportunities?
Dave: Basically we pray when ever we are together, our main focus in on the power of prayer.
CS: Do you sing anywhere else just for fun? Like maybe in the shower or while cleaning or driving, etc. And if you do, do you sing your own music or someone else's?
Dave: I basically sing all the time. I sing constantly. Basically I make up stuff on the spot though.
Sam: I play drums on everything I can hit. . . and have done so sense sixth grade.
Lee: I play Bass whenever I have free hands, or sometimes when my hands are full (there are a lot of stories about that)
CS: Do you have plans on releasing a CD anytime soon?
Battle Sound: Yes, we plan on releasing our full length album called "Until we die" We have a ep out called "love is spinning".
CS: Are you considering signing with a larger label anytime in the future?
Battle Sound: We are open to whatever God wants, whatever he says goes. Right now we are panning on forming our own label.
CS: Do you have any advice to give to the youth of our world?
Dave: Yes! God isn't a religious holier than thou freak. He loves us and wants a relationship with us. My advise is give God a chance people, He always gives us chances.
Sam: Find your talents that God has given you and show them to the world!
Lee: No matter who you are, Jesus will accept you as you are, because He loves you. His death on the cross proves that.
